I'm Alex, and I've taken a winding path to software engineering. I started studying chemistry, drawn to the intriguing science, but ultimately left to pursue hands-on work as an electrician. For five years, I tackled complex problems on large-scale projects, learning to think systematically and work under pressure.
Eventually, I found myself craving more intellectual challenges and returned to school for mathematics. Somewhere along the way, I discovered software development and fell hard for it. The mental rigor, the tangible satisfaction of seeing your work come to life, and the way it touches nearly everything around us. Chef's kiss.
With my mathematics degree complete and several positions under my belt, I've grown into the software engineer I am today. It's been an evolving journey over the past few years, and I'm excited to see where it leads next.
Professionally, I'm finding myself interested in financial and realtime systems. How to scale such a system. Low latency. High stakes. As far as programming languages go, I'm currently exploring Go and re-familiarizing myself with C/C++.
We are so much more than just our professional selves. Below are some of my hobbies and interests outside of work. If you share any interests, professional or lifestyle, feel free to send me a message.
Hobbies
Catch me doing these:
- Skiing, steep and deep.
- Fly fishing, big beautiful trout and cold mountain streams.
- Taking some time with my dog to go outside everyday.
- Guitar, music, attempting to sing.
Interests
Aka, things I wish I dedicated more time to:
- Cooking, love experimenting in the kitchen but lacking in recipe repertoire.
- Backpacking, it's been a hot summer or two since I've done this.
- Some good books, I'm always reading the news.
- Learning a new language, ya'know, like the kind spoken to people, not computers.
- Cars, motorcycles, boats, engines are all pretty neat.
